Module 3: Developing a Renewed Perspective

Module Three Objectives:

  • Learn how to develop a renewed perspective
  • Cultivate an abundance mindset and an attitude of gratitude

Module Three Content:

1. Watch this VIDEO: Finding Freedom & Happiness with Food.  In the video, I talk about the key to finding freedom and happiness.  It’s all about renewing your perspective!

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
 Romans 12:2 NLT

  • Instead of focusing on what we are giving up, we can focus on what we are gaining.  (From DEPRIVATION to ABUNDANCE)
  • Instead of looking at our trials as barriers to success, we can view them as challenges that make us stronger.  (From STRUGGLE to STRENGTH)
  • Instead of looking at exercise as something we have to or should do, we can be thankful that we have the ability to exercise.  (From BAD ATTITUDE TO GRATITUDE)
  • Instead of viewing ourselves as the owner of our body and allowing ourselves to treat it the way we want, we can view ourselves as caretakers of the body God has given us and treat it in a way that is holy and pleasing to Him. (From OWNER to CARETAKER and from that which is PERMISSIBLE to that which is BENEFICIAL)“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”  1 Corinthians 10:31

CALL TO ACTION: Which of these perspective shifts do you struggle with most?  What will developing a “renewed perspective” look like for you?

2.  In our health and in life, we can face things that are out of our control and not act out of control simply by renewing our perspective.  We have the ability to retrain our mind to think differently.  Read I’m Gonna Lose It – 4 Steps to Keeping Your Cool While Building Your Character OR watch this VIDEO: 4 Steps to Recapturing the Lost Art of Self-Control and Improve Your Health, Your Relationships and Your Life!  Then, answer the reflection question.

Reflection: How might you use the information in this post/video to keep things in perspective, cultivate an abundance mindset (one founded in security, focused on opportunity, and grounded in knowing that through Christ we become enough), and develop an attitude of gratitude?

3. Read Tonya’s Testimony: From Struggle to Strength (How to NOT Give Up) and answer the reflection questions.

Reflection: How did Lisa’s battle against breast cancer and fighting for her life help you put your own battles in perspective?  How might God be using your circumstances to draw you closer to Him and also mold you into a woman of strength?

“In order for a diamond to become a diamond, there must be pressure.  In order for you to build muscle, there must be resistance.  Struggle is what builds strength!” – Tonya R.
