Module 4: Overcoming Obstacles

Module Four Objectives:

  • Identify strategies for overcoming obstacles in your health journey
  • Discover how your emotions can be used as tools for positive transformation
  • Discover how to use our obstacles to TURN to God and spur positive action

Module Four Content:

1. Throughout your journey, you will undoubtedly encounter obstacles.  There will be days you feel exhausted, powerless, hopeless, and even depressed that you’re not progressing as quickly as you would like.  There will be days when you want to quit.  In those moments, it is important to remember that it takes time to make a lifestyle change, but every lesson learned along the way is teaching you patience, trust, commitment, perseverance, focus, and how to rely on God for the strength to keep going!   These lessons are not learned through quick-fix diets and programs, nor do those diets and programs produce sustainable change.  The path you have chosen will transform you from the inside out – renewing your mind, rejuvenating your spirit, and refueling your body for lasting change!  Keep going, focusing on one day at a time, one moment at a time – your future self with thank you for it!  A few months from now you’ll look back and be amazed at how far you have come!  Choose the biggest obstacle/s to your health journey from the list below and think about how you can apply the information to your own health journey:


2. To overcome obstacles, we must be able to view fear, doubt, overwhelm, stress, frustration, and other negative emotions as vehicles for positive change.  Rather than let past failures, present day circumstances, or fear of the future immobilize us, we can view them as challenges that spur growth.  Read Emotional Freedom (Two Things You Can Do to Let Go, Love Harder, and Live Fuller) and respond to the Call To Action on the blog OR watch this VIDEO: 2 Ways to Break Free From Negative Emotions so You Can Finally Let Go and Move Forward and respond to this question: How can you transform negative thoughts and emotions into positive change?

 


3. Read Lisa’s Testimony: On the Other Side of Despair (Finding Freedom and Hope in God) and answer the reflection question below.
Reflection: In her testimony, Lisa describes a number of “blows” or obstacles that left her feeling broken and unworthy.  Instead of allowing her obstacles to overcome her, she partnered with God and allowed her brokenness to became a pathway to healing.  She used her circumstances as an opportunity to turn to God and transform her blows into blessings.  What are the biggest obstacles standing in your way to freedom from your unhealthy habits?  What strategies will you use to overcome these obstacles so you can keep moving forward?
