My name is Jen Roland and I’m an educator, health and fitness coach, blogger, and the face behind Fueled Fit Focused. I work with women who want to improve ALL ASPECTS of their health - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. I help them achieve a complete and lasting transformation through focused nutrition (no calorie counting or deprivation), focused fitness (short, effective workouts), and focused faith (living out God's Word). My one-on-one and group programs provide them with the support, resources, and accountability they need to build sustainable habits and achieve their goals. I also provide strategies for intentional parenting and living a life of greater meaning and purpose.

From Passion to Purpose
John Maxwell, an internationally respected leadership expert, speaker, and author once said, “Success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.”
To find your purpose in life, you must follow your passion. In a recent article in Forbes magazine, Steven Kotler states that your passion exists at the intersection of three of more things you’re really curious about. You can find your passions by identifying the things that you want to learn more about, that excite you, and that you feel compelled to act upon to make a difference in the world.
I am passionate about my faith and about living a life that glorifies Him – through my interactions with others, the information I allow to enter my mind, the food I chose to nourish my body, and the activities I choose to participate in on a daily basis. I am passionate about health and fitness - about caring for the body He gave me so I have the energy and ability to fulfill His purpose for my life. I am passionate about learning, growing, and “sowing seeds that benefit others," whether it be in my role as a spouse, mother of three, coach, blogger, small group leader, or facilitator of this community.
Fueled Fit Focused is the “sweet spot” where my passions intersect. It has allowed me to turn my PASSIONS INTO PURPOSE by addressing these unsettling statistics:
1. The leading cause of death in the United States is heart disease, resulting in approximately 610,000 deaths each year, and it is preventable through proper diet and regular exercise. (1)
2. Rates of obesity are at an all-time high, with ALL 50 states exceeding 20%, 22 states exceeding 30%, and 3 states exceeding 35%. (2) This is due largely in part to the fact that more than 80% of adults do not meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity - both aerobic and strength-training. (3)
3. 29 million people in the U.S. have diabetes and another 86 million are pre-diabetic. Without weight loss and physical activity, 15-30% of those with prediabetes will develop Type 2 diabetes within 5 years. (4)
4. The percentage of adults in the United States who call themselves Christian is down from 78% in 2007 to 71% in 2014, with declines among all major Christian denominations. (5)
5. 61% of kids who are involved in church as recently as their teenage years become spiritually disengaged by their 20’s – not actively praying, reading the Bible or attending church (Crain, 2016).
Why Fueled Fit Focused?
Fueled Fit Focused is about fueling your mind, body, and spirit with what you need to grow and reach your full potential in health, fitness, and in life. It’s about being physically, mentally, and spiritually fit so that we can “run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1). And it’s about staying focused on Him and on the things that REALLY matter in life.
At Fueled Fit Focused, we will grow spiritually by exploring God’s Word and how it applies to all aspects of our life (e.g. marriage, parenting, health) - while also sharing strategies for helping our children strengthen their faith so they don’t become spiritually disengaged.
At Fueled Fit Focused we will grow physically, by learning what and how to eat for optimum nutrition; engaging in regular exercise; and finding freedom and balance with both food and fitness.
At Fueled Fit Focused we grow mentally by allowing our failures to teach us, our successes to motivate us, and our challenges to strengthen us so that we become better because of them.
As part of the Fueled Fit Focused community, we will "sow seeds that benefit others" by encouraging and inspiring each other to live healthier, more purposeful lives.
From Purpose to Profession
Helping others achieve their goals and witnessing their transformations – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual – is my big WHY. It is why I do what I do and love every single minute of it!
So, how did I get here?
Before becoming a Health and Fitness Coach, I taught secondary science and coached in the public school system for 9 years. I earned National Board Certification, completed extensive coursework in nutrition, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, genetics, and related sciences; and graduated with a Masters Degree in Life Sciences (Biology concentration). In 2009, I traded one love for another when I left my teaching position to be a full time mom. In 2013, I became a Health and Fitness Coach for Beachbody after achieving amazing results with their fitness programs. It was through leading online accountability groups as a coach that I discovered my passion for teaching wasn’t limited to a science classroom. Inspiring others to grow and learn, sharing my background knowledge, and witnessing their transformations was incredibly rewarding. I began creating exercise routines and meal plans for other moms who wanted to lose weight, get fit, clean up their diet, and have more energy. My programs provided them with the daily accountability, support, and resources they needed to make a complete lifestyle change.

Throughout this time period, for a number of reasons that you can read about in my testimony, my faith grew tremendously. As I was working with women who were struggling to reach their health and fitness goals due to patterns of self-destructive behavior, negative thoughts, or outside circumstances, I started sharing my faith with them. I found that it gave them hope when they felt hopeless, encouragement when they wanted to give up, and enabled them to live above their circumstances even while in the midst of them by staying focused on Him. It became clear that faith, food, and fitness were ALL essential components to achieving the true and lasting transformation they desired.

In the fall of 2015, God called me to include Him in my coaching business, expanding my original vision of fitness coaching and personal training to one that included ALL ASPECTS of a person’s health and well-being (e.g. physical, emotional, spiritual). Instead of merely sharing physical transformations, I was inspired to share the testimonies of women whose lives had been completely transformed by their faith. My faith has been instrumental in giving me a new perspective on my health, marriage, parenting, circumstances, and even my purpose in life. My relationship with God is what has enabled me to persevere, let go, love harder, and live better and I want to share it with you so that you can also live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
In the past 4 years, I’ve worked with over 300 men and women who want to lose weight, improve their diet, overcome obstacles, reduce stress, achieve their health and fitness goals, and grow in their faith. I also share strategies for flourishing in your marriage and other relationships, parenting with purpose (e.g. promoting early literacy, relationship building activities, helping your children build a lasting faith), and living a more focused, God-centered life.
