Broken Jars and New Beginnings – Finding Freedom in Forgiveness

An important, but less recognized, aspect of mental health is forgiveness. Studies have found that the act of forgiveness can lower our risk of heart attack; improve cholesterol levels and sleep; and reduce pain, blood pressure, and levels of anxiety, depression and stress. Forgiveness is about decluttering our minds from the anger and bitterness that hurts us so we can move toward improved heath and healing. In today’s post, I share a powerful testimony of forgiveness that God used to set me free.

Better Than A Happily Ever After

While our society is all about the pursuit of happiness and self-fulfillment, marriage was not designed for that purpose.  The Bible tells us the primary purpose of marriage is to model Christ’s love and develop our Christian character.  We are called to shift our mindset from looking at marriage as a way to make us happy to a way to make us holy—to accept one another as we are accepted, forgive as we are forgiven, and love as we were first loved by God (1 John 4:19).  When we stay focused on the six fundamental truths in today’s post, we can have a healthy, God-honoring marriage that is better than any “happily ever after.”
